I want to ask you a favor. I want to ask you to refer your family members, your loved ones, your friends when they been injured in a car accident to me so I can help them.
What, you may ask, are the reasons for you refer your family and friends to me?
One could be that I give a guarantee that if for whatever reason they are unhappy with my services they can discharge me and not owe me one penny for the money I’ve spent on their case or the time I’ve expended on their case.
The reason I give a guarantee like this is I want to go work and earn their trust by taking action NOW.
I don’t know of any other lawyer in this area that gives a guarantee like this.
Another reason could be that you know how I do things and you can help your family and friends by explaining different issues that arise to them because you’ve been through this.
Or, you care for their well-being and you expect me to treat them with the same care and respect as I did you. A side benefit is that you’ll feel relieved that you referred them to me.
The bottom line is, you are the judge of my services and you decide whether or not you would feel comfortable referring a family member, a loved one, or friend to me for my help.
On the other hand, here are some reasons you may not want to refer a case to me:
• I made you mad.
• You feel I did not provide to you the service you expected.
• I disrespected you in some way.
• I (fill in the blank ……………….).
And if you truly feel this way, you should rightfully not refer a family member, loved one, or friend to me – I would not either.
If you are thinking of referring someone to me, then the next question may be:
“Why can’t Paul reward me in some small way for my referral? Just a token of appreciation for my effort. I’m being loyal and kind and generous in sending someone I care about to him and I want them to think well of me for getting them the right help.”
Oh, wow! How I wish I could reward you in some way, and here’s why I can’t: Kansas rules of professional conduct which control the manner and method of law practices in Kansas Rules 7.2(c) states: “A lawyer shall not give anything of value to a person for recommending the lawyer services.”
As you can see my hands are tied and if I tried to get around this rule they could discipline me and take
away my license to practice law.
I wish I could send you a gift, a certificate for dinner or deliver a nice bottle of wine or event tickets to you. Now you know I can’t and you know why.
I hope this does not prevent you from referring family members, loved ones, or friends to me and I wish all of you a great week!
