Third Party Claims vs. First Party Claims

After a car accident, who is to blame? Was the accident your fault? Was it the other person’s fault? Does it even matter who’s fault it is? YES!

Depending on which insurance company you file your claim with, will determine what type of duty the insurance company owes you. In an auto accident, if the other driver is at fault and has insurance, you would file against his insurance carrier – a 3rd party claim. If the other driver is at fault but does not have any insurance, then you will have to pay for the damages out of pocket, or file the claim against your own insurance carrier – a 1st party claim.

This simple information should equip you with a better understanding of how insurance companies work for and against you after an accident.

Of course the best way to avoid accidents and the insurance companies is to avoid involvement in a car collisions. Remember friends, when you are driving, be wary of your fellow commuters and drive safe. Click here for more information on the Law Center For Car Accident Injuries or call 1-800-426-6129
